How does this online speedometer work?
Allow location access to receive live device readings. When the device reports speed, it is used directly. Otherwise, successive accurate positions provide a distance-over-time estimate. An approximate network location cannot measure speed.
How accurate is GPS speed?
Accuracy depends on the device and signal. Buildings, tunnels, and weak reception can interrupt readings. Position estimates filter small GPS drift; very slow movement may take longer to detect. Old readings are cleared instead of appearing live.
Does it work offline?
After an online visit, this page and its essential files are saved when browser caching is available. GPS can keep working offline if the device provides fixes. Keep the page open; background updates vary by browser.
Speed units and running pace
Choose mph, km/h, knots, m/s, ft/s, cm/s, or approximate Mach. Running pace shows minutes per kilometre or mile; a lower pace means faster movement. At rest, pace has no finite value.
Mach uses 343 m/s, approximately the speed of sound in dry air at 20°C. Actual sound speed varies with conditions.
